BYTE Session - Realities of Virtual Collaboration

August 8, 2017

Instructor: brenda huettner

Insyncbyte20

No man is an island; we are all part of a larger community. Rapid advances in tools and technologies offer us a myriad of ways to communicate and collaborate with each other. When we spend all day at the keyboard, it’s easy to forget that we’re still working with humans who happen to be on their own keyboards.

This session will review some of the current virtual collaboration tools available and suggest ways of using each most efficiently. We’ll also talk about how and when you can incorporate a more personal touch to your communications across the virtual landscape.

BYTE Session - Global Learning and Virtual Teams

July 25, 2017

InstructorS: Amy Lins and Munira Bangee

Insyncbyte20

Most of us work in some form of a virtual team these days. Does the old adage of “forming, storming, norming, and performing” still apply in the virtual team, or are new norms emerging? What are the benefits and pitfalls of being a virtual team member and a virtual team leader? What skills does a leader need to be successful? We will discuss how to build and maintain high performing virtual teams.

Additionally, we will take a look at how the virtual team changes when you become a multi-national or global team.

BYTE Session - The Right Learning Stuff: Are You Designing Courses or Learning Experiences?

June 13, 2017

Instructor: Jennifer Hofmann

Insyncbyte20

The modern learning landscape calls for modern blended learning design. We aren’t designing COURSES, we are designing EXPERIENCES that support the learner in all of their moments of learning need – not just when learning something new.

It doesn’t have to be rocket science! It takes a new approach to design; an approach that builds on fundamental instructional design approaches and takes the needs of modern learners and modern organizations into account.

Blended Learning Campaigns are designed to support the learner experience by delivering time-released lessons that are supported by activities and resources that continue to be relevant after the formal campaign is over. The campaign design considers appropriate instructional strategies, techniques, and technologies to identify the best approach to a learning objective.

BYTE Session - Gamification: Strategies for Merging Learning Theory, Games, and Instructional Design

May 23, 2017

Instructor: Dr. Stephen Slota

Insyncbyte20

This workshop will provide hands-on experience with gamification, the application of game mechanics and design processes in traditionally non-game contexts. Skillfully done, this can foster more engaging, informative, and/or cooperative educational, recreational, political, and business environments.

We will focus on design elements that are broadly useful across content areas and contexts with emphasis on the following:

  • How and why people play games.
  • Differences between games and simulations as well as fun and engagement.
  • The function of rulesets and how they bound play-game-designer interaction.
  • Models for design and development.

BYTE Session - Embracing Microlearning in Your Learning Ecosystem

April 4, 2017

Instructor: Carla Torgerson

Insyncbyte20

Microlearning (or nanolearning) – defined as providing learning material in short bursts that anyone can access any time – is being touted as the “next big thing.” We all have personal experiences of learning in this way, but how do we apply it to corporate learning?

In this practical program, we look at what microlearning is, guidance for creating your own microlearning resources, and how to use MILE, the MIcroLEarning Design Model© to develop a microlearning program.

BYTE Session - Emotional Intelligence (EQ) and Agile Learning in the Workplace

March 21, 2017

Instructor: Marjorie Derven

Insyncbyte20

The seismic changes in the workplace today are creating stress, volatility and uncertainty. With no signs of the rate of change slowing down, and in fact accelerating, we have to increase our personal and professional agility or burn out. Join us as we discuss the four elements of Emotional Intelligence (i.e. self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, and relationship management) as key differentiators to increase our ability to adapt and become more agile.

In this highly interactive and practical session, we will explore how lack of self-awareness, everyday stress, and personal triggers limit our ability to make the best decisions. We will discuss specific EQ strategies for you to apply after the session.

BYTE Session - Modern Learning is Perpetual Learning - How do we become the "Google" of Learning?

March 14, 2017

Instructor: Jennifer Hofmann

Insyncbyte20

The term 'blended learning' isn't descriptive enough anymore. Especially when we consider that learning takes place perpetually – even when the training department isn't looking! To become more of a partner with our business, we need to make sure learning opportunities and content are where and when our learners need them. If they are not, our learners will turn to search engines to find the information they need and hope for the best.

To stay relevant, the Learning and Development field needs to think beyond the 'formal learning' box, and consider the shifting characteristics of our learners.
