BYTE Session - The Right Learning Stuff: Are You Designing Courses or Learning Experiences?

June 13, 2017

Instructor: Jennifer Hofmann

Insyncbyte20

The modern learning landscape calls for modern blended learning design. We aren’t designing COURSES, we are designing EXPERIENCES that support the learner in all of their moments of learning need – not just when learning something new.

It doesn’t have to be rocket science! It takes a new approach to design; an approach that builds on fundamental instructional design approaches and takes the needs of modern learners and modern organizations into account.

Blended Learning Campaigns are designed to support the learner experience by delivering time-released lessons that are supported by activities and resources that continue to be relevant after the formal campaign is over. The campaign design considers appropriate instructional strategies, techniques, and technologies to identify the best approach to a learning objective.

BYTE Session - Gamification: Strategies for Merging Learning Theory, Games, and Instructional Design

May 23, 2017

Instructor: Dr. Stephen Slota

Insyncbyte20

This workshop will provide hands-on experience with gamification, the application of game mechanics and design processes in traditionally non-game contexts. Skillfully done, this can foster more engaging, informative, and/or cooperative educational, recreational, political, and business environments.

We will focus on design elements that are broadly useful across content areas and contexts with emphasis on the following:

  • How and why people play games.
  • Differences between games and simulations as well as fun and engagement.
  • The function of rulesets and how they bound play-game-designer interaction.
  • Models for design and development.

BYTE Session - Embracing Microlearning in Your Learning Ecosystem

April 4, 2017

Instructor: Carla Torgerson

Insyncbyte20

Microlearning (or nanolearning) – defined as providing learning material in short bursts that anyone can access any time – is being touted as the “next big thing.” We all have personal experiences of learning in this way, but how do we apply it to corporate learning?

In this practical program, we look at what microlearning is, guidance for creating your own microlearning resources, and how to use MILE, the MIcroLEarning Design Model© to develop a microlearning program.

BYTE Session - Emotional Intelligence (EQ) and Agile Learning in the Workplace

March 21, 2017

Instructor: Marjorie Derven

Insyncbyte20

The seismic changes in the workplace today are creating stress, volatility and uncertainty. With no signs of the rate of change slowing down, and in fact accelerating, we have to increase our personal and professional agility or burn out. Join us as we discuss the four elements of Emotional Intelligence (i.e. self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, and relationship management) as key differentiators to increase our ability to adapt and become more agile.

In this highly interactive and practical session, we will explore how lack of self-awareness, everyday stress, and personal triggers limit our ability to make the best decisions. We will discuss specific EQ strategies for you to apply after the session.

BYTE Session - Modern Learning is Perpetual Learning - How do we become the "Google" of Learning?

March 14, 2017

Instructor: Jennifer Hofmann

Insyncbyte20

The term 'blended learning' isn't descriptive enough anymore. Especially when we consider that learning takes place perpetually – even when the training department isn't looking! To become more of a partner with our business, we need to make sure learning opportunities and content are where and when our learners need them. If they are not, our learners will turn to search engines to find the information they need and hope for the best.

To stay relevant, the Learning and Development field needs to think beyond the 'formal learning' box, and consider the shifting characteristics of our learners.

BYTE SESSION - Reversing 200 Years in the Wrong Direction With Blended Learning

February 28, 2017

Instructor: Martyn Lewis

Insyncbyte20

In this session Martyn Lewis (Founder 3GS) will contend that training has been heading in the wrong direction for 200 years and that we now have the chance to reverse this trend by embracing blended and continuous training approaches. Thanks to technology, we can now re-architect and redesign training for how people actually work and live their lives in today’s world. However, this requires us to let go of old standards and embrace new approaches.

BYTE Session - Putting the Love Back Into Your Blended Learning Instructional Design

February 14, 2017

Instructor: Phylise Banner

Insyncbyte20

The work we do as instructional designers is constantly shifting. We need to continuously evolve and adapt, as innovations drive change in the way that content can be delivered and consumed, learning environments can be designed and developed, and new modes of learning can be assessed. Although the shift can be chaotic at times, one thing remains at the core of our work -- LOVE.

Yes, you read correctly, LOVE.

BYTE Session - Overcoming the Forgetting Curve: New Content Creation Paradigms

January 31, 2017

Instructor: Oded Ilan

Insyncbyte20

Users forget 90% of what they are trained to do within days of the training. How do we deal with this phenomenon? Should we deal with this phenomenon? Do we want our users to learn or to perform? Through this BYTE session, you will understand how new technical communication technologies open the door to a radically different, even “disruptive”, approach in training and supporting users.

BYTE Session - Mastering Storytelling for the Business Conversation

January 17, 2017

Instructor: Christine Miles

Insyncbyte20

The world has changed with the bombardment of digital and mobile inputs. Selling and leading today is about uncovering needs people don’t know they have. It is about painting a picture that helps people see what they didn’t know was possible, versus simply providing a product or solution.

We know that some of the most successful professionals and leaders intuitively use “Story” in their conversations, though it is only in recent years that “Story” has been scientifically proven to influence and help people opt-in and buy.
