Edtech Blended Learning

What do computers, mobile phones, robotics have in common with a pencil, to-go cups from your local coffee shop, or an idea for better work flow? The answer is simple. They are all forms of technology. Technology is anything that was designed with the goal of having a purpose. Yes, a mobile phone is a great piece of technology, but so is the pencil, and those to-go cups you get from your local coffee shop.

Technology starts off as an idea, and evolves into a plan or concept, continues to grow and then evolves until we have a solution. And even with a solution, sometimes the technology will continue to grow with newer ideas and newer solutions. That is what technology is. And it is always evolving.

Live online learning has been a part of  the corporate learning mix for nearly two decades. Initially, virtual classrooms supported a specific, logistical need: delivering content to a live audience in the different physical locations.Virtual Classroom Modern Blended Learning

The modern workplace has evolved so much that the way we work and learn is almost unrecognizable compared to 20 years ago. The learning function must accommodate a constantly changing culture where learners perform multiple jobs with minimal preparation because of limited resources. We all could use more energy, staff, and money!

Modern blended learning is the future of training

Welcome to 2017, the year when it all comes together. Learning technologies (EdTech), communities of practice, lifelong learning, and the myriad other great

Of course, to meet this resolution, we need to be learners first. There are so many resources available to us, and it’s difficult to figure out where to start. It’s even more difficult to narrow down the topics we should focus on. concepts we’ve been hearing about for the last two decades. This is the year learning professionals have a common New Year’s Resolution for 2017: we are going to provide the best content to our learners, using the best technology, and ensure that it is delivered to the right place at the right time.

Training Magazine Network Session Recap

Building successful virtual and blended learning initiatives require purposeful planning and implementation. We have been working with global organization SAP to support a redesign and redeployment of their training programs in order to make them more engaging, more successful, and more modern.

Our friends at Training Magazine Network generously hosted a live online presentation featuring InSync Training President Jennifer Hofmann, and Malte Bong-Schmidt, Virtual Learning Lead for SAP. Over the course of an hour, Jennifer and Malte reviewed their virtual and blended learning strategy, and how it impacted the organization.

future of corporate learning

Mimeo Webinar Recap & Follow-Up

Recently, the InSync team partnered with Mimeo to explore the current climate of corporate learning. We crafted a survey that asked questions about organization learning and the experiences of practitioners in the field. Over four hundred respondents completed the questionnaire.

Readers found the facts presented in this report both insightful and reassuring. We believed, though, that providing context and recommended application approaches for the empirical information was a critical next step. For this reason, Mimeo hosted me and their VP of Talent Development, Brad Thurber, so we could share our insights into the data we collected.

This blog answers attendee questions concerning the major trends deemed key by the study, and directs you to helpful resources that complement the survey results and webinar discussion. To get the most from this post, watch the webinar recording here.

Using Microlearning to Pull Learners to Your Content

pull learning for improved training

Training Magazine Network Session Recap

Several months ago, Jennifer Hofmann’s presentation “How to Engage Modern Learners,” explored the differences between Push training and Pull learning. Traditional training focuses on the Push – formal scheduled programs that provide planned, siloed instruction. Pull learning, on the other hand, uses a decentralized, learner-centric approach to make content readily available in a specific moment of learning need. Both Push and Pull play key roles in the modern learning culture.

Training Magazine Network’s audience found this learning event so helpful, they invited Jennifer back to present “Pulling Learners to Your Content: How to Make it Work” on June 8. In this follow-up session, Jennifer discussed learner engagement in modern workplace learning, the five moments of need learners experience, and moving Pull learning from theory to practice.

This blog post shares a step-by-step approach you can use for creating microlearning Push activities, as well as an example of how to do so. To review all of the information covered in the June 8th session, access the full recording here.

Posted by InSync Training on Apr 5, 2016 1:00:00 PM

My Learning Journey - Part 2It’s official - Jennifer Hofmann, InSync Training President, is a blended learning participant!

In this video, the second in her “Personal Learning Journey” series, Jennifer shares her thoughts on the program’s technical skills session.

"Hello everyone! This is Jennifer Hofmann again with InSync Training. Welcome back to my video blog, which is exploring and capturing my personal blended learning journey. I am enrolled in a three month program that includes 16 Webex sessions, two multi-day on-sites, and a lot of collaborative, self-directed work in between. So it's exciting! I'm capturing this because, as a member of the Learning and Development community, specifically the Online Learning and Development community for the last 20 years, I've become a little bit jaded as a learner. So I want to use this experience, not just to learn this content, but to learn how to do my job better."

Jennifer Hofmann, Virtual Instructor Led Training (VILT) pioneer and InSync Training President, has been accepted into an elite blended learning program for small business owners.

For the first time in a long time, Jennifer is the student, not the instructor!

"It's Jennifer Hofmann with InSync Training. I'm really excited to share that I was just accepted into a really great professional development program, but as a learner, and not as a trainer. It's a blended program with two four day on-sites - very cool! 16 virtual WebEx sessions on Mondays and Fridays, to begin topics and to end topics. There's collaborative group work, online discussions. It sounds like a great blended learning experience."

Getting Ready to Learn [Reflections on my Blended Learning Journey]

Posted by Jennifer Hofmann on Mar 29, 2016 1:00:00 PM

I am very excited! I was just accepted into a fabulous professional development program, as a learner. It’s a blended program, with two four-day onsites, 16 virtual WebEx classes, collaborative group work, and online discussions.

Sounds like a great blended JH_Learning_Journey_1.jpglearning experience! I am especially excited that the course content is not related to the training and development field, and the audience is composed of a different set of peers. Business owners. I find it energizing to interact and learn with people that have such a diverse background.
