No longer content with having to absorb large chunks of learning content served up on a desktop computer, modern learners prefer to consume “bite-sized” lessons on the tablet or smartphone of their choice. And since eLearning on mobile platforms has been shown to be highly effective, this trend will only grow larger.

Jennifer described the following process to event participants:

  1. Understand what mobile learning and social learning mean.
  2. Determine why and when you should choose mobile and/or social learning for your program.
  3. Determine what content should be mobile and design components.
  4. Determine what content should be social and design components.
  5. Implement in an authentic environment.

Let me ask you a question. Can you define mobile learning?

Is “mobile learning” a learning technology, a design technique, or something else completely? The fact is, the definition of mobile learning is “on the move.” (See what I did there? No? Read it again.) And that is representative of all of the aspects of the modern learning landscape.

The last decade has introduced myriad new technologies and methodologies to our toolkits. But this evolution in learning has been messy. Virtualization has resulted in being able to learn almost anywhere, almost any time, and in many, many ways.
